Biography

     Mrs. Sparks is very pleased to be a part of the Kershaw County team of educators and would like to welcome aboard her new assistant, Mrs. Jennifer Gibson, to the U.S.S. Patriot.  This is Mrs. Sparks sixth year at NCMS.  She currently serves in the position of Library Media Specialist and is also our school's Technology Coordinator and Webmaster, oversees a team of student library assistants and is the faculty advisor for Patriot TV, our morning news program.  She is excited about her brand new American Library Association We The People: a More Perfect Union Bookshelf Grant and hopes to blog with many students this school year.  Mrs. Sparks is also very excited about the redesign of Patriots Read Club this year and about her new book club for boys only - "The Page Turner's" Club.
     Prior to joining the faculty at North Central Middle School she was employed with Richland School District Two in Northeast Columbia where she, along with her husband (also a librarian) and two daughters, currently make their home.  Oldest daughter, Rachel, a Clemson graduate, now attends law school in New York City.  Daughter Claire graduated from Ridge View High School June 2008 and, after completing a year long national Broadway tour, is now in her sophomore year attending the College of Charleston this year. 
     Mrs. Sparks received her B.A. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1979, her Paralegal degree in 1984 from the Southeastern Institute for Paralegal Training in Nashville, Tennessee and her Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2005.  She received her (Masters + 30) in April of 2008 and is certified in school library media for K-12.     

Personal Message

Mrs. Sparks will hold extended library hours for students each Wednesday beginning September 8, 2010 from 3:05 until 5:00 p.m. Students who wish to stay MUST prearrange a ride home by 5:00 pm. Students may utilize this time to receive extra help with research projects, word process and print and to access the Internet or use our many excellent databases such as Discus or Knowitall.org. They may be a part of our "Page Turner's Club" for Boys only between 3:15 and 4:00 pm
